Réhabilitation et humanisation d’une barre de mille logements de quinze étages, longue de quatre cents mètres, devenue symbole piteux récupéré du Vème Plan. Une ville, un quartier, sont des espaces de vie avant d’être des zones de peuplement. Réhabiliter, dans ce lieu, c’était donc remettre de la vie, transformer l’image, produire un réel quartier en le mettant en relation avec son extérieur. Il n’était pas question de faire table rase mais de préserver un corps existant et de le ré-agencer. La décision a été prise de composer en douceur et d’assurer un maximum de convivialité par l’aménagement d’une véritable « rue » bordée de végétaux, au pied même de la barre. Pour réactiver le contact humain et le bien-être, divers espaces de service ont également été délimités.

This is the revitalization and humanization of a group of a thousand housing units in a structure that is fifteen-floors high and 400 meters long. This structure represents the pitiful remnants of the urban planning of the 1960’s (5th Plan). Cities and neighborhoods are first living spaces before being areas of concentrated populations. Renovation entailed revitalization and the transformation of the structure’s image. The relationship between the building and the exterior was transformed in order to produce a real neighborhood. It was not a question of starting from scratch but of preserving an existing body and rearranging it. It was decided to construct gently and to optimize conviviality by planning a street lined with vegetation at the foot of the building. In order to reactivate human contact and well-being, various spaces for services were planned out.
