HIGH SCHOOL, NIORT (FRANCE)
Il s’agissait de l’insertion d’un nouveau lycée et d’un internat dans un quartier comprenant déjà une école maternelle, un immeuble de logements HLM et un ancien laboratoire. Le programme exigeait une création mais aussi de conserver une partie de l’existant. Il fallait donc assurer une certaine continuité tout en donnant à ce quartier une nouvelle dimension urbaine. C’était l’occasion de créer un lieu de vie devenu une articulation entre le lycée et le quartier. Le nouvel établissement est venu se glisser dans le site. La partie centrale a fait l’objet d’une étude spécifique pour que la lumière du jour puisse jouer sur certains endroits. Luminosité, clarté et transparence ont été apportées par de nombreux auvents de métal et de verre. Hall d’entrée, portiques, galeries, corniches donnent une dimension urbaine à l’ensemble tout en mettant les différents
publics à l’abri des intempéries.

This is the insertion of a new high school and boarding school in a neighborhood where there is already a nursery school, a building of government-subsidized housing and an old laboratory. The project required creation but also conservation of some of the existing structures. A certain continuity was maintained while giving the neighborhood a new urban dimension. This was an opportunity to bring different pieces together to form one place that has connected the high school to the neighborhood. The new establishment integrated into the site. The central part was specifically studied so that natural light fills certain areas. The numerous metal and glass awnings made it possible to maximize natural light and transparency. The entrance hall, portico, hallways and cornices create an urban dimension while filling a practical need of creating shelter from bad weather.
