L’originalité du projet se trouve dans la recherche du confort thermique et acoustique. La réalisation d’une double façade, sur trois côtés du bâtiment, permet de réguler les apports thermiques en créant une circulation d’air entre les parois en béton de la salle et la vêture métallique extérieure. En hiver, cet espace tampon fonctionne tout simplement comme une protection thermique avec réduction de l’effet de parois froides (et en conséquence, des économies d’énergie). La protection thermique entraîne une diminution des consommations de chauffage. En été, la configuration géométrique de la peau extérieure (hauteur, resserrement en partie supérieure) permet de favoriser le tirage thermique naturel. Le plissé, métaphore de l’histoire industrielle de Roanne, trouve une application opportune.

The originality of this project lies in the search for thermal and acoustic comfort. The construction of a double layered façade on three sides of the building makes it possible to regulate the temperature by circulating air between the concrete of the building and the metal exterior. During the winter this space serves as a buffer and provides thermal protection by reducing the effect of cold walls. Thermal protection reduces heat and energy consumption. In the summer, the geometric configuration of the exterior skin (height, restricted in the upper part) makes it possible to naturally draw out ideal climatic conditions. The pleats are a metaphor for the industrial history of Roanne and have a functional purpose.
